Why Run Swarf Handling
Significant volumes of metallic waste (swarf) can be generated during slot recovery operations which typically requires the removal of a section of the original casing, usually by milling, prior to drilling a side-track to access a new production zone. Large volumes of swarf waste can also be produced when decommissioning a well where access to the annulus usually involves milling through the casing as part of the plug and abandonment activity. The reliable separation and removal of the milled metal swarf helps to prevent unnecessary damage to rig processing equipment, minimising the risk of rig downtime, whilst also allowing for the re-use of recycled drilling fluid. A safe, reliable and efficient means of removing metallic waste at surface, without the need for human intervention, is therefore a critical pre-requisite for most Operators and Drilling Contractors.
The Romar® swarf handling system has been developed in-house by our own engineering team and incorporates the cumulative knowledge, experience and operational expertise amassed over several years as a specialist provider of magnetic separation technologies to the oil and gas industry.
